Ordinary Members
The following are eligible to be ordinary members
(a) members of the staff of the University;
(b) members of the staff of institutions and other bodies affiliated to or connected with the University by statute of the University (“affiliated institutions”);
(c) full-time (PhD) students of the University who are candidates for a higher degree by research; and
(d) members of the University Council.
Associate Members - who are not eligible for Ordinary Membership (above)
Two types of Associate Membership are available:
**Unrestricted (full use)
**Restricted - no lunchtime use of cafe and members lounges.
The following are eligible to be associate members:
(a) retired members of the staff of the University and of affiliated institutions;
(b) alumni of the University; and
(c) other persons associated with the University;
who in each case are not eligible to be ordinary members.
Honorary or Temporary Membership
(No charge) On recommendation of an Ordinary Member and on approval by the Committee, this type of membership is available for 30 days to 'official' visiting academics and staff to
The University of Melbourne. Temporary Members may not sign in guests for lunch in the Main Dining Room.

Full time higher research (post graduate) students
who are not members of University Staff are eligible to apply for Ordinary Membership at a reduced fee.
Retired Members of Staff
of the University are eligible (only) for Associate Membership (restricted 50%, unrestricted 100% of current subscription).
Restricted membership does not include use of the Main Dining Room and lounges at lunchtime as these areas are heavily subsidised.
Honorary Professorial Fellows, which are staff appointments within a department of the University are eligible (only) as Ordinary members
and the full subscription is payable.
